Presumably some of these awards included watches produced to order by Rolex via Asprey in London with the Omani khanjar on the dial. The stamped crest is characterized by a traditional Omani dagger called a khanjar over a pair of swords. These royalty-commissioned watches with Khanjar Dials are now highly collectible on the secondary watch market. The Rolex 1665 Omani Sea-Dwellers with either red Khanjar or Qaboos dial script, were commissioned by Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’id via Asprey of London in the early 1970s. Evidence exists that they were presented to the British military’s SAS troops who had served in Oman during the Dhofar Rebellion between 1970 and 1976.
The Rolex modelref. 1665 Oman Sea-Dwellers with either RED Khanjar or Qaboos dial script, were commissioned by Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’id via ASPREY of London in the early 1970s and presented to the British Military SAS troops who had served in Oman during the Dhofar rebellion between 1970-1976. The 159 lot auction takes place on May 13. Sultan of Oman’s watches for sale include a Sea-Dweller Ref. 1665 and three Daytonas — Ref. 6263, Ref. 6265 and Ref. 6269. Each has the Khanjar emblem or the signature of the Sultan himself on the dial, and are offered in near perfect condition. This particular watch is a Rolex Day-Date 1803 from 1974 in white gold with stunning patinated blue dial and gold baton hour markers, gold hands and a lime-green Khanjar emblem above the six o’clock position on the dial. This combination of white gold and yellow gold markers/hands is rather unusual and most likely supplied at a special request.
