I can't help but obsess over details, but in my humble study of the 1655, I've come across 4 distinct bezel types. Not to say there are not more variations, but below is a sample of my findings: Type 1: Numbers float to the top of bezel, i.e., not centered. Type 2: Numbers are centered on bezel.
The most noticeable difference is the ‘long hook’ on the 1s. The final point to note about the 1655 is the seconds hand. Early versions of the reference, from the first year of production, were fitted with a straight seconds hand. The hands were painted white and were of a fairly minimalist design. The bezel is also another specific detail on the 1655. Like on the Explorer II ref 16 570, the bezel is not turning, but the specificity is on the font: I should say the bezels, as there were several on the 1655, as perfectly shown here:
